Pune, India played host to the 2008 Commonwealth Youth Games. Pune is located in western India and has a population of over 3 million, a third of which is made up of youth.

The Australian Team was very successful finishing second on the medal tally behind India with a total of 65 medals including 24 gold, 18 silver and 23 bronze

The 100-strong Australian team were amongst 1300 rising stars from 71 Commonwealth nations in Pune, who contested in nine sports – athletics, badminton, boxing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis, wrestling and weightlifting.
